Let me introduce myself!
My name is Lindsey. My credentials are a B.S. and M.A. in speech-language pathology, ASHA CCC’s, and state licensing.
My first look at the world of cognitive disorders was during my first externship in grad school. I was at a skilled nursing facility. It broke my heart to see so many families experience loss after loss. I learned a lot during my short time there. I saw how insurance had the say in how much treatment was “enough”, how some people became furious at the situation at hand, and some people were thrilled to have speech therapy because I would be the only non-nursing staff person they’d see that day.
I was also interested in how the children who visited seemed unsure of how to interact with someone they’d known all their lives. The person with dementia sometimes seemed uncomfortable too, other times they didn’t seem to notice the awkwardness.
After school, I’ve worked with various diagnoses at a hospital, schools, a center for autism, skilled nursing facilities (SNF’s), and an outpatient clinic. I’ve worked PRN jobs at SNF’s even when my full-time employment is somewhere else.

In progressive diseases, knowing what lies ahead is one of the best tools at our disposal. Every person is different and requires individual evaluation/treatment/etc., but there are general guidelines that can be helpful for most with a cognitive impairment. I hope to provide cognition rehab resources as we experience a global rise in dementia.
Thank you for reading!
